Outside Angkor Complex
The River of 1000 Lingas, or Khal Spean, is a half an hour walk through the forest, or 1 hour drive from Siem Reap. This site dates from 1054, and was discovered in 1968.
The Kulen Mountains site is a 2 hour scenic drive from Siem Reap. The Kulen mountains is a sandstone plateau overlooking the Banteay Srey temple area. This is where the story of Angkor began with the coronation of Jayaverman II. There is a waterfall with hundreds of lungas standing in the river. There is a separate entrance fee of $20.
Beng Mealea is a full day trip. The drive from Siem Reap takes over 2 hours. It is one of the largest complexes in the Angkor region, and one of the most beautiful. Policemen guarding the temple ask for a $5 entrance fee.
